Caring for your Board
When most people buy a board, it becomes just another utensil within the kitchen, it gets used, wiped and put away. Without knowing it, it becomes neglected, and over time starts to wobble, warps and splits apart. My Boards are cut
and glued in such a way, they will not warp, buckle or twist.
I've had customers say they have always used Olive Oil or a cooking Oil
on their boards.... Copyright ©mekdesign

DO NOT USE THESE OILS:
Even though olive oil and cooking oils are completely safe to use in
and around foods, they do not protect the boards since the oil turns rancid over time and the
Board takes on a pudgent smell.
DO NOT:
Put your Board in the microwave.
Put your Board in a dishwasher.
Leave your Board sitting on a hot oven top.
Put your board in a sink of water
Leave your Board sitting in sunlight every day
Do not put pots straight from elements onto the boards
All of these will damage the Board.
I would recommend wiping your board down
with a damp cloth, drying it and putting a small amount of Board Wax on
the board, stack it away until you need it next. Give it a quick wipe
over before use. Stack your Boards on 1 end striaght up.
When your board starts to look a little
dull:
If you have an orbital sander, use 100 grit, and give the Board
a good sanding, then use a 240/320 grit and repeat. Use Raw Linseed oil and
give the board a good soak, and wipe down, leave for 24 hrs.
Take out the Board Wax, and apply a good thick coat onto the Board, then rub it in with a
soft cloth. Wipe the
sides, or end grain, down as well. The board will look wet if you've
used enough wax. The Board wont immediately absorb the wax, but put the
board aside and leave for 24 hrs. Wipe down all sides and
surfaces. Even if you plan to use only one side
for cutting bread, sealing the other side protects it from moisture when
washed. You may want to give the Board another coat of wax, repeat the
above. Please use the contact page to email me if you have a problem.
You can use Raw Linseed oil to treat your board, if you don't have a Bee's Wax Polish.
